Energy Mapping & Diesel Efficiency
With a proactive orientation toward sustainability, this valued customer is engaged with RES to evaluate greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) and identify areas for targeted improvements. A key result of this affiliation to date is the soon to be implementation of a fuel management system that is expected to save more than $14 million on diesel fuel over the lifespan of the gold mine with very little capital expenditure and less than a 6-month payback projected.
To fulfill this strategic relationship, RES initially dissected energy use and spending at the heap leach mine, discovering opportunities for energy efficiency and renewable energy in the process. Continued evaluation targeted ore preparation and removal, heap leach operations, thermal-based gold recovery, and administrative facilities.
RES provided a detailed inventory of GHG measures and an analysis of potential carbon liability and avoidance strategies, aligning with the corporation’s sustainability goals. Fuel and power usage were also analyzed to frame reductions that could be realized by management applications, process efficiencies, or capital investments.
RES conducted feasibility studies for the most promising discovered opportunities. With continued assistance by RES, the mine is creating a strategy on renewable energy deployment, including distributed generation to offset mine-site power usage, as well as a utility scale solar-electric plant.
